Anglican Diocese of Tarime
Who we are
The Anglican Diocese of Tarime, part of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, is currently led by the Rt. Rev. John Msuma Nyaitara, who was consecrated as the second Bishop of Tarime in April 2025. He succeeded the founding bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Mwita Akiri, who served from the diocese’s inauguration in 2010 until his retirement in early 2025. Headquartered at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Tarime, the diocese oversees approximately 33 parishes served by 24 pastors and 34 catechists. With a growing membership of roughly 11,500 Anglicans, the diocese maintains strong international governance links through a formal partnership with the Diocese of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
